WEEK 1 - 2009

Well I have reached the end of the first week of 2009 mostly unscathed... I have a mystery bruise my knee, several scratches on my leg and a splinter in my foot that is refusing to budge, but on the whole I have survived.

The new year was rung in lying on my sisters couch watching Xanadu. As lame as that may sound I felt that having never seen it I should use the last 90 minutes of

2008 and rectify the situation. Please don't stone me to death for admitting that i haven't seen it... or for now having seen it for that matter.

There was a reason that I had never sat through Xanadu before and that is because it is Spectacularly bad. Sorry to those of you who love it but its only redeeming feature is the fact that is doesn't seem to realise that it is truly gaudy. Though some of the special effects were pretty if not subtle.

The fallowing days were spent in my sisters garden fighting with rose bushes, hence the scratches, though i feel it is necessary to explain that I won as they are now just a big pile of thorny clippings... Annie - 1, Roses - 0.

Hmmm other news...

It is remarkably hard to find leotards for little girls in any size smaller than a size 4... I think this may be a problem that we will have to get used to as my

niece does not appear to be growing all that fast. Ahh... she takes after me in that way!

I finished reading 'Nation' the other day. I got it for Christmas. I liked it... it is kind of dark and brooding, but really interesting at the same time. I had not read any other book by Terry Pratchett that was as easy to read.

It is not as notably funny as the Disk World books (in my opinion) but it has its own sort of dark humor in the face of great adversity. I really enjoyed it... though it smacks a lot of someone who is learning to come to grips with changes that they don't like, or have any control over. My sister told me after i had started reading it that Pratchett has been diagnosed with some horrible and debilitating disease... this may account for the underlying trauma of the story.

My 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' DVD arrived today. I finally got my parents to sit down and watch it. I had tried when it was on the web but it was having major issues loading at the time. I have yet to watch Commentary: The Musical!

Ohh... I can't believe i didn't mention this first.

THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR WAS ANNOUNCED!!!

Matt Smith (pictured here)... I am excited I loved his work in ' The Ruby in the Smoke' and 'The Shadow in the North' two Philip Pullman books that the BBC made into TV productions. They also star Billie Piper of Doctor Who fame. I saw them some time last year. He is now in a show on ABC called 'Party Animals'. I think he will do an Excellent job as the Doctor and I am glad that he will be the youngest person ever to play the Doctor... come on if you were a time lord would you want to come back as an old person??? It seems right that the doctor should get younger as he uses up his incarnations.

I have gotten lazy with this again. I think that is because I have discovered the addictive nature of Facebook. Anyway for all of you who are still loyal enough to still bother looking at my blog this tale is for you.

I unfortunatly got sick at the end of last semester and have had less than no luck in kicking it, infact this dreaded illness just keeps manifesting its self in new and more iritating ways. Currently I have symaltaniously got a blocked nose, a runny nose (yes you can have both at the same time) and blocked ears... OH AND lots of assignments.

Anyway that is enought complaining (after about two months of back to back viruses I think I have run out of steam to complain) what have I been up too:

- I worked on my first student play last term as the Assistant Stage Manager. (All I can say is there is a reason the last student production I worked on was when I was in Primary School.) I found it an INTERESTING experience, in all the possible conotations of the word.

- I received two Credditis, a Distinction and a High Distinction for my first semester subjects.

- Mum Bought me a Car for my birthday, an 1981 Honda Accord. (Don't think I have ditched my Vespa, anyone here at Uni can attest to how iritating I get on a nice day when I winge about not being able to ride my Vespa.) I MISS MY VESPA NOW!

- I am going to see 'Thirsty Merc' on Wednesday night.

- I am still sick.

Well that is just about all the high/low lights of my life at the moment. When I am feeling better I will update again.

An Epic Adventure is on its way

Well it is booked and paid for. Ned (aka. Alison) and I are going on an Epic Adventure over seas.

When? you may be asking yourselves.

We leave from Sydney on the 30th of November and fly direct to London. We will then be traveling around the UK until the 20th of January. Where exactly we will go is yet to be sorted, however we do know we will be in Edenbourgh for newyears. After our time in the UK we fly to Italy for six days, then to Helsinki for about 10 hours (we are oddly more excited about that at the moment) and then to Thiland for three hays in the way home. And we get back into Sydney on the 31st of January.

A new blog for Ned and Millie's ( Millie aka. Me) Epic Adventure will be set up in the near future so ou can all keep track of what is happening withour trip.

Hello to all,

I have been slack again lately as I have been up to my dark sleep deprived eye sockets for the past few weeks.

So what has been happening...

You will be pleased to know and for some of you surprised to know, (I know I was) that i got a Distinction on my essay. YAY ME!!! I was convinced that I was going to fail as most of the class did (or only just passed). Yes I am fantastic I know, but it seems I also picked the right question as everyone in that subject who picked that question did well and anyone who chose the other questions didn't.

No surprise really that I also receved a distinction for my art book again though. YAY ME anyway (why not it's my blog)!

On another note, I have no more classes for this semester. I do have three assignments left to finish and then I am done.

As for why I am tired at the moment...
Well for part of my assesment I have to work on the third years drama production 'Orphius Decending' by Tenesse Williams. I am the Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) and I am also in charge of the props during the show. The show is long has two intervals and is about vile people. Oh and the Director is a complete wanker (lets hope he never reads my blog). There is two more weeks of it to go, though thanks to Kate's wedding which I am going home for on Saturday I get to miss two performances. That deseves a YAY KATE!
I have also been informed since we opened that I am expected to call the show on one performance. It would have been good if I had been told this before the show opened because I have not realy been paying atention to what has been going on. Bad me. Oh well maybe if I skip a few cues we can get the show to run under three hours. yes I said THREE HOURS.

Well that is about it for the moment. Except fot this picture of ricket powered penguins.

I bought myself a present the other week and thought I should share it with you.

This is my new Electric Violin/Viola. (It was a Violin, but I changed the strings so it is now strung like a Viola). Isn't it stunning. I am going to borrow an Amp. form a friend soon so that I can play it better. It sounds like you have cotton wool stuffed in your ear when I play it now.

I am finaly getting good at this...

Well you know how I told you that I was raining, well here is picture I promised of the 'Doman Falls'.

This is right outside the door at the end of mu coridore. It is a good thing we have a step at the door. The water is about 10cm deep at the bottom of the step. I must remember to bring my Gumboots.

I also have a pet beetle called Graham. I have been keeping him in a jar.

I thought he had died the other day, (I have kept him for two weeks now), but he is still going strong. How long do they live i wonder?

I will have to steal some photos from other people so you can see what I have been doing as I don't currently have any of me.

Hi All,

Well for all my promising to be better at posting I have let you all down once again.

I am now back in Wagga, where you will be happy to know, it has been raining every day since I got here.

There has been a request for more photos. At the moment I don't have many But if you once again bear with me I will endevour to get some soon. I am currently unable to get the photos off my camera but as soon as i can I will share them with you.

For now I am well and may I sugest next time you are in Wagga Come and visit the Doman Falls the newest tourest Atraction. (Pictures to follow soon).

A few things I have learned since I got here...

Here are a few things I have learned since I arrived at Wagga.

1. There is an unhealthy obsession with plastic cheese. You know the kind that comes in slices (sometimes indevidualy rapped). At first I thought that the University was just saving time, but when I got a burger at a cafe and there was plastic cheese on it I realised the truth. WAGGA IS OBSESSED WITH PLASTIC CHEESE!!! May I ad that I don't like said Cheese.

2. Wednesday night seems to be the night that all Uni functions (piss-ups) are on. Strainge day to choose if you ask me, though I don't have any classes on Thursday until one so really it hasen't been too much of a problem. For me anyway, though I don't drink much so the main problem is the noise when the others com back at 1,2,3,4,5 (pick your choice of A.M. times).

3. The bus into town is $1. Not to exciting you say, well the Bus back from town is also $1, UNLESS you go via South campus residences then it will cost you $2. However if you think this is a rip off you can go to the other side of the road and wait 25mins (not that I knew it would be that long) and catch the SAME bus as you as you would have got on before that went to South Campus and only spend $1.
This may sound like a rant, and that would be because it is. STUPID BUS!!!!!!!!

Anyway here is a new count down clock for you all. YAY HARRY POTTER!

Welcome To Wagga Wagga!

Hi All,

Well here i am in Wagga!

I have been a long time in getting here but I have finaly made it. I am having a good time so far and have made some good friends. I seem to be older than most of the people in my building (all 70 something of them) but no one seems to beleive me. Weird that?! There are twelve first years in my course and no one elce in the university seems to be entierly sure what it is that we do. Some thing that did surprise me is the lack of boys doing the course. There are TWO. One in first year and one in second year, the third years dont have one.

My Room is small-ish, about the size of the floor space of my room at home for all those who have seen it, but my room here has a desk in it taking up space. I could be worse, it is a bit old and beat up but there are rumors that they are taring this hall down next year so we are all doing what we want to the rooms. I will post a picture of my room for you later (I don't have any yet).

Las Wednesday was 'Toga Night' which is exactly what it sounds like, a night when we all dress up in togas. Thought it is good to go as a group with a theme. Some of the girls from Doman (my hall) and I went as 'Surviver Doman' I have atached a picture.

It was a good night except that I was a bit sick and lost my voice by the end of the night.

I will post more when I have another chance and some more pictures.

For the besquillion people in the Blogesphere that I have not had the chance to tell in person, I am moving to Wagga.

I have been Accepted into Charles Sturt University to study Design for Theatre and Television. YAY ME!!!

That is all the news I currently have except that I will be leaving to go in February.

I will Keep you posted.

What happened in May?!

I have been really bad at this whole blog thing. I am not going to lie and say that I will be better in the future because as we know I probably wont. I am just going to catch you up on the highlites of the past months over the next few days.

So in the immortal words of Julie Andrews " lets start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start."

MAY

You all know know from my last post that I was going to do some costumes for a play called M. Butterfly. The show went well and I managed to Finnish them all just in time. (Thanks Helen for your help.) I have posted some of them here for you to see. I only had ten minutes to photograph them all so some of the pictures are not as good as I wanted and you cant see the detail.

I made this jacket from scratch and I had no pattern I was rather pleased with it in the end however I will never again make costumes out of shear fabric ever again. It was not my idea to and as you can see it was a running theme through out.

You cant see the detail on this one. It had a brown zig-zag sew al the way down the front from the collar to the ground. It was one of those things that didn't show up from a distance but looked really cool up closer.

I made this one by altering a diner jacket that I bought from the salvos. This was one of my favorites. The jacket didn't fit him so I cut it in half down the back and added a bit of fabric mesh (kind of like fly screen) and did the same at the front. I came out kinda well.

This one was the bane of my existence. It looks cool and so it damn well should fro the time it took to sew it pull it apart and sew it again. It just didn't work the first time. It made him (yes that is a guy) look like a balloon.

It is a pity this picture is dark. This one was really pretty and I had used some of the leftover fabric from my year ten formal dress to make it.

This kimono was prity with the yellow blossoms embroidered on it.

This one had this crazy silver stripe running through it so it kind of glittered.

The photos don't really do it justice. You really had to see them move. I also made two other jackets, a night shirt and cap, a pair of fake boobies, three Mao suits and altered numerous other garments.

Out of this I also got sucked into helping on yet another show. "He died with a felafel in his hand".

From what I can remember not a lot more happened in May. I think I got sick, but that is about it. I didn't even see a movie so I cant even review one for you though I did see a couple in June, but that will have to wait untl next time when I come to you with: JUNE - No pionts for guessing what I did in June.

Sorry to all those people who have been looking at my blog more regularly than I have. I will try better from now on.

Here goes:
As I am a glutton for punishment and have not yet learned my lesson about volunteering I have found myself once again making costumes. (Mind you this is a lesson that some people never learn in my experience.)Today, I have just finished my work on 'Arcadia' for which I have been making square front regency pants, that even Mr Darcy would be pleased to wear.
However this is not the end of my costuming jobs. I have finely taken the plunge and am designing and making the costumes for a show called 'M. Butterfly'. Lots of Chinese and Japanese influences as well as being a little serial. I will Post pictures as soon as I have some to show. It is a big job, but it will look good in my pholio.
Mum and dad have been away (not to the same place, dad went to Darwin and mum went to England) so I had the house to myself for a couple of weeks, which was good while I was cutting out costumes as there was no one to complain about the fact that I made the house look like a Chinese laundry (literally). Dad is back now and a ll I have to say is thank god it isn't mum that has come back as dad is less pernickety about my "creative space", aka. Mess.

Well that is what has been filling in my time for the past few weeks. And to tell you the truth I cant remember anything all that exciting that happened before all now. Bit here are some totally random things I thought I should share with the world:

1. I got an Exceeds Expectations grade on my W.O.M.B.A.T. (Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test) I was very excited as it was harder than I had thought it would be.

2: Did you know that the band Franz Ferdinand was named after some guy whose assassination was the tipping point that started WW1?!

3. I found a Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Movie Count down clock on The Leaky Cauldron website and it made me laugh. (Please do not take me for one of these obsessed people because I am in a class apart. I just thought is was funny)

4. I like movies!
Not so random you say?! Well I have disided that this is the place to Publish (or inflict) my movie reviews on an un suspecting public. ( Please try to me unsuspecting as it is more fun for me.) So I now Welcom you to:

ANNIE'S MOVIE REVIEW #1

I am going to review the last film I saw which was:

She's the Man

Directed By: Andy Finkman (hee hee hee! His name makes me laugh, Finkman, haa haa)

Based on Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, with some odd things done to it by some people I have never heard of. (see link for details http://imdb.com/title/tt0454945/fullcredits#writers )

Staring:
Amanda Bynes as Viola
Channing Tatum as Duke
Laura Ramsey as Olivia
and James Kirk as Sebastian
(Is it just me or is this just a little to familiar?!)

Plot:
for all of you who know Twelfth Night let me reset the scene for you.
There is no ship; there is a high school soccer team.
There is no ship wreak; there is a bitter rivalry between the girl's soccer team and the boy's soccer team.
Sebastian is not lost at sea; he sneaks of to London to play with some rock band.
Viola dose not dress as her brother, Sebastian, to support herself now that she is alone in the world; she does dress as her brother so that she can pretend to be her brother at his new school (where conveniently no one has ever seen him so don't suspect a thing) and join the boy's soccer team so that she can beat the boy's team at her school.

From there the story runs thus.
Viola falls for Duke her (Sebastian's) room mate, who is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to realizing that he is being hit on. Meanwhile Duke has a crush on Olivia who has a crush on Sebastian (aka. Viola) and the real Sebastian is away so we don't care about him. (sound right?!) This all pans out well for all involved, and surprisingly, no one in therapy. Go figure!

This is all played totally un-convincingly by Amanda Bynes, though it is rather amusing to watch knowing that the other characters are supposed to be convinced by her act.

My Verdict - Funny for all the wrong reasons. Easter holiday movie that is not worth going to unless you have a discount movie ticket (I did). I enjoyed it because that is what it is there for, but not for any other reasons.
Empire gave it 2 Stars and it was worth both of them, so it can have 2 from me as well.

Hi all,

Not a great deal that is exciting to recal has happened latley.
I hav been working a bit and going to my music lessons and going to the movies, but that is about it really.

"Lend Me A Tenor" opened on friday (for those who don't know this is the first of the plays for the year from Rep) Very funny and well played by everyone. Dad is in it and does a fine job of it to. I helped a bit with the costumes of the show so this is not just shameless premotion really. Though on that note I am aranging a group to go on Wed 1st March, so if you are around and want to come let me know. (if we get lots of interest we might get a special deal on the tickets)

Well that is about it for now. Hopefuly something exciting will happen soon so that I will have something interesting to wright.
